Why in News?

Recently, The home minister Amit Shah stated that the government had decided to resettle all displaced Kashmiri pandits in the valley by 2022.

Who are Kashmiri pandits?

  • Actually, it is a minor community in the Jammu and Kashmir region of India.
  • They left the valley around 1990 due to to some reasons.

What are the reasons for Kashmiri pandits to leave Kashmir??

  • According to a political scientist Alexander Evans, approximately 95% of the total population left the Kashmir valley in 1990 e due to the militancy control over the region.
  • According to CIA (Central intelligence agency) around 300000 pandit had been internally displaced due to violence at that time.

The major story of 600 pandits!!


  • There were around 600 families of Kashmiri pandits who were state in the valley.
  • But there were many attacks on these families like:-

1. 1997 sangrampur Massacre

  • In this massacre around seven Kashmiri Hindu villagers were killed by the Islamic militants.
2. 1998 Wandhama Massacre
  • In this massacre around 26 Kashmiri Hindus were killed.

Why this statement comes after such a long time?

  • According to the BJP governments manifesto BJP promised for the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri pandits after a Congress minister speaked up on this

The scenario of pandit after articles 370!!!


  • The pandit have been in the favor of this statement as the control of Indian government Tightens over there in the Kashmir valley.
  • Pandit also celebrated the governments move as they think that this might help them back to their valley.

The blueprint story!!!


  • The blueprint was presented in 2015 and proposed that self contained ,heavily guarded colonies for returning pandit complete with schools ,malls ,hospitals ads will be created.

The opinions around the blueprint

  • This separatist group opposed this.
  • Kashmir political parties also opposed this.
  •  The Pandit also appended this due to the only Pandit settlement.

What government said about the development in the valley??


  • home minister Amit Shah said that around 25000 government jobs will be created for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir by 2022.
  •  and also stated that almost 3,000 jobs have been already been given in the last 17 months.
  •  he also said that 8.45 kilometre banihal tunnel is planned to be opened this year which will help to connect Kashmir valley with the railways by 2022
  •  he also said that Jammu and Kashmir has been in top priority of the prime minister Narendra Modi and a lot of development has been going to take place there
  •  he also stated that Central government has released 15000 crore rupees directly into the bank accounts for the development of villages in Jammu and Kashmir.
