Recently, the government of India TOLD Twitter (micro-blogging website) for not complying with its order to block more than a thousand accounts for alleged spread of provocative content and misinformation on the farmers’ protest.

FACTS AND FIGURES 

Total 709 account deactivated, they done these things

1. 257 handles that had originally to edit with the hashtag Modi planning formal genocide , 126 have been deactivated

2. Of  1,178 handles that government suspected to have links with khalistani and Pak elements to spread misinformation, 583 deactivated.

3.it ministry said "motivated campaigns"on platform and #around PM were being run to abuse inflame and create tension in society on unsubstantiated grounds.

4. Twitter was warned of action under IT Act Section 69A (3), under which senior company officials can be jailed for upto 7 years, apart from financial penalty.

KEY POINTS 

Current Issue 

The micro blogging site has restored 250 accounts after being demanded by the legal provisions of the government.

On 31 January 2021, government issued orders to Twitter for blocking accounts of some users as they were creating rucus accn. To the government.

After sometime , Twitter reinstated the accounts and tweets saying that they are not harming the policy if the company.
